Pinnacle Weapons in Destiny 2 are supposed to be a sign of achievement. Only the most dedicated competitive Crucible players were able to get their hands on Luna’s Howl last season, and while Bungie has added Vanguard and Gambit Pinnacle Weapons in Season 5, the ultimate achievement remains obtainable only via the Crucible. The Mountaintop awaits those that manage to reign supreme.
The Mountaintop – Crucible Pinnacle Weapon
The Mountaintop is a lightweight kinetic Grenade Launcher with a rather interesting unique perk, Micro-Missile: “This weapon fires in a straight line and has a massively increased projectile speed.” Further to that, the grenades won’t bounce off things but rather detonate on impact, like a real missile. Unless, of course, you have Sticky Grenades selected.
Bungie talked about its inspiration behind the Mountaintop in a recent This Week At Bungie post.
How to Get The Mountaintop
Out of all the new Pinnacle Weapons, this one is the most difficult to attain. Players will be required to succeed in the Crucible time after time, but this time, non-competitive playlist activities will also count.
This weapon was created for a few reasons. Other than the Militia’s Birthright, we haven’t created any new Lightweight grenade launchers since Forsaken. In general, it’s a pretty underrepresented weapon type. This gave us an opportunity to explore it as a pinnacle Crucible weapon, and add more variety to the mix of what you’ll use and have used against you. The feeling of getting a direct hit for that instant kill is satisfying, so the weapon was built to support it—but to give it more options, it’s also the only Lightweight grenade launcher with Sticky Grenades, for those of you who have a more tactical approach to the Crucible.
