TM 020 is a Technical Machine used to craft Trailblaze, a Grass-type Physical Move in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that bolsters the user’s Speed IV by one stage and deals a small amount of damage to a target. Naturally, the primary objective of using Trailblaze is not to deal substantial damage against opponents but to increase a Pokémon’s Speed for more opportunities to attack. Trainers can teach this Move to Arboliva, Meowscarada, or Lilligant to make them effective combatants against Ground-, Rock-, and Water-type opponents in Scarlet and Violet. Unlike most TMs, the recipe for Trailblaze is not found in the open world of Paldea but instead received as a reward for clearing a particular battle.
Unlocking the Trailblaze TM in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
To unlock the Trailblaze TM 020 in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Trainers must confront and defeat Brassius, the Grass-type Gym Leader of Artazon, a town in Area One of the East Province. Before facing this opponent, players must complete a Gym Test that involves rounding up several Sunfloras scattered around the townlet.
How To get TM 012 Low Kick in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Before facing Brassius in the Artazon arena, Trainers are encouraged to ensure their team of combatants is at least Level 17 or higher. Brassius will dispatch the following pocket monsters in the Gym Leader battle:
According to experienced Trainers at Game8, the best counters to bring for the Artazon Gym Leader battle are the Flying- and Fire-type Fletchinder, Fire-type Crocalor, and Fire-type Growlithe. These three should be able to take down Brassius’s lineup with ease. Once defeated, Brassius will reward the player protagonist’s effort with the TM 020 Trailblaze in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

To craft the Trailblaze TM in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, players must procure the following materials:
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are available on the Nintendo Switch.
The easiest way to get League Points is by selling one’s excess pocket monster materials at Pokécenters.
Hoppip Leaves can be acquired from members of the Grass- and Flying-type Cottonweed Pokémon, Hoppip.
Hoppip can be found in grassy fields within South Province (Area One) and South Province (Area Two).
Trainers can also find Skiploom in the southern portion of the East Province, including the grassy areas around Artazon.
Petilil Leaves are slightly challenging to find due to Petilil’s rarity.
A choice spot to search for Petilil would be the southwestern coast of South Province (Area Four).
