How to create a Clock

As mentioned in the introduction, the clock is a nice tool to have just to keep tabs on what time it will be when you come out of a cave or a heavy mining operation. It’s good to know you might be heading into the night so you’ll have to be ready to fight some enemies if you’re heading home!

  • Obtain Redstone Ore This isn’t too difficult to find, but you will need to dig pretty deep to find it. Redstone ore can generally only be found deep down underground in layers 15 - 0. You can check your layer number by enabling coordinates on your game and looking at the Y-coordinate. You can only mine redstone ore with a iron pickaxe or better, so make sure to bring one of those with you! Obtain Gold Ore Gold ore can be a bit tricky to locate, but there’s one trick in particular to come across it a lot more often. It will only spawn in level 0 - 31 in general, but if you are in a badlands biome, it will spawn from level 32 - 80! The generated frequency in which it appears in the badlands is also increased, so if you have one of these biomes nearby, then you should always mine there for gold! Keep in mind that you can only find it within stone, not in the different color terracotta. You will also need an iron pickaxe or better to mine it. Make sure coordinates are enabled in your game, or if you’re on the Java version hit F3 to show them! Smelt Redstone Ore into Redstone Dust Now that you have your redstone ore, we need to turn it into redstone dust. We only need one, so create or head to your furnace and throw in the ore along with some fuel to create the dust! Smelt Gold Ore into Gold Bars Take your gold ore and do the same thing with it as you’ve done with you redstone ore. We need four gold bars in total to make the clock! Create the Clock We should now have all our ingredients, so let’s put it all together in our Crafting Table. Place the four gold in the middle of each side of the 3x3 grid. Now place the redstone dust in the middle of these to make the clock!
