To mute the in-game chat in New World is easy. All you have to do is load into a game and find the chat settings button. You can find the button by pressing ESC and hitting the gear icon, as shown by the image below.

Pressing this gear icon will open up a large menu with various options for each aspect of the chat. Some of these options can control stuff like muting swear words from chat or how long messages linger in the chatbox.

All of this is not important unless you want some messages to show up and remain on screen. You will want to turn your attention towards the mute section to the right of the chat options menu, as shown below.

Under these extensive chat settings, you have the option to mute all channels. You also have the option to set them to show only up in the feed or show up as alerts. But If you want to mute the chat entirely, you will need to change all settings to how we have them in the image above.

To do this, click each circle under the mute category; doing so will effectively mute the entire chat in New World. You can also miss and match settings to have certain messages such as company, faction, and direct messages only show up in chat if you select alert for it.
